Lulu Erkeneff

Lulu Erkeneff is an impressive student athlete who is driven by hard work, passion and an ambition to succeed. Whether she’s out in the water surfing, studying for her Advanced Placement classes, or representing Surfrider at local city council meetings, Lulu is constantly working to grow as a professional surfer, Honor Roll student and environmental ambassador.

Lulu was selected in the inaugural year of the invitation-only Surfing America Prime series.  She finished the 2012 shortboard season with an impressive second place overall and also is the 2012 Shortboard Season Champion in the open women’s division for Western Surfing Association.  In 2012, for the overall season she placed second in WSA’s open women’s longboard and girls U-18 shortboard, third place girls U-18 longboard divisions and won the WSA National Championship in longboard, U18 division.

Lulu is a unique competitor as she has carried a full load of advanced placement classes from freshman to present senior.  She is a National Honor Society inductee for 2012 and has been named a Dana Hills High School Scholar Athlete every year to date. Lulu is the only US recipient of the highly coveted, International Surfing Association’s athlete scholarship for 2012. She co-founded and is currently the Vice President for the Dana Hills HS Surfrider Club, and will assume the role of President in the 2012-2013 school year. She devotes hundreds of hours organizing environmental awareness programs including beach cleans and data collection for plastics pollution, and has been instrumental in representing their group at City Council meetings in Dana Point, Laguna Beach and San Clemente. She also has traveled extensively to Sacramento representing the South Orange County and global offices of the Surfrider Foundation, meeting with our Governors, Lt. Governors, Assembly, Senate members and their staff on ocean, coastal access and environmental issues.

Recently Lulu was appointed the first female ambassador for the Mauli Ola Foundation and also an ambassador for “Natural High.” She is sponsored by Kicker Audio, Ecological Skincare, SPY Eyewear, Killer Dana Surf Shop, The Mint Art Gallery, Nalu’s Fish Grill, Hotline Wetsuits, Pull-In and the Surfrider Foundation (globally).
