Kicking-off Summer and Keeping Our Beaches Clean!

In honor of the environment we play in, Ocean Minded was pleased to participate in a few phenomenal beach clean-ups to wrap up the month of June and kick-off another amazing Summer!

In honor of International Surfing Day on June 20, 2012, Ocean Minded teamed up with the South Orange County Chapter Surfrider Foundation and T. Patterson Surfboards to celebrate the sport of surfing, it’s community, and give recognition to the environment we play in. In addition to Surfrider Foundation members, over 100 community volunteers also gathered at Salt Creek Beach for the afternoon beach clean-up, collecting over 120 pounds of waste. Ocean Minded Team Ambassadors also came out to celebrate the day, including Chuck Patterson, Thomas “Maximus” Shahinian, Lulu Erkeneff, Jasset and Jack Umbel, Brandon Hawkins and Kala Willard. The day wouldn’t have been complete without the delicious grinds from Nalu’s Hawaiian Fish Grill.

Shortly after International Surfing Day, Ocean Minded also joined the County of San Diego, I Love A Clean San Diego and WiLDCOAST for the Annual Tijuana River Valley Estuary Cleanup on Saturday, June 23, 2012. The Tijuana River Valley is one of the most impacted areas in the county as trash and debris comes from both sides of the California/Mexico border. Over 160 volunteers joined for this extremely successful cleanup, collecting over 9,000 pounds of trash.
