This past Saturday Ocean Minded participated in the first ever Standup For The Cure, a paddle event to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Registration opened at 9am and the line was seemingly endless!
Over 700 enthusiastic paddlers showed up at the Newport Dunes Resort on Newport Harbor Saturday morning for the day-long event that included an attempt at the Guinness world record for the largest standup paddle lesson led by pros including Zane Schweitzer, Daniel Hughes and Matthew Hughes, and Brennan Rose, a “Pink Fleet” fun paddle through Newport Harbor, relay races, a fantastic lunch spread courtesy of Ruth’s Chris steakhouse and cool brews from Kona Brewing Co. Several celebrities were also on hand, including Gregory Harrison, the original “Gidget” Kathy Kohner Zuckerman and legendary waterman Mickey Munoz.

"Pink Fleet" paddlers entered the water in wave after wave to show their support.
Over 400 paddlers participated in the SUP lesson, demolishing the previously held world record, and the sight was aboslutely amazing. Event organizer Dan Van Dyck stated, “The vision of the ‘Sea of Pink’ was as inspiring as many of the survivors’ stories we heard throughout the day. I cannot put into words what an impact this event has had.”
- Hundreds of paddleboards lined the beach, including demos from over a dozen different brands on site.

THE Surf Divas Izzy and Coco Tihanyi of Surf Diva Surf School in La Jolla, CA were on hand to show their Pink Pride!
The day was such a success that organizers have decided the make Standup For The Cure an annual campaign and plan on rolling it out to several cities throughout the US.
